Ice Sculptures ~ Your Personalized Wow Factor

Ice Sculptures ~ Your Personalized Wow Factor

Because your Williamsburg wedding reception may be the most important event you’ll ever plan, this is the perfect time to showcase your unique style and give your guests a visual “wow’ to remember. If you’ve been to a few weddings lately, you may have seen the same centerpieces, the same floral arrangements, candles, shells and décor over and over.

When thinking about an ice sculpture, many people envision a swan or basic design they may have seen being carved on a cruise. However, professional ice sculptors have a vast array of styles in their repertoire and can create nearly any design for your event. The possibilities are endless, from individual guest table centerpieces to an entire ice bar. Be creative and set your reception apart from the ordinary! How to do that with ice?

Some “cool” answers to your burning questions:

How long is it going to last?  Most ice sculptures have a “show life” of about 5-6 hours if displayed indoors. This means it will take about that long for the detail to fade, but the sculpture will remain for many hours after that. For an outdoor reception, display life  has many variables such as temperature, wind and design. No sculpture should be set out in direct sunlight- as the UV rays destroy the ice immediately.

How much does a sculpture cost?  This depends on what you order. Most ice sculpture companies charge by the difficulty of design. Some charge by the size. An estimate of $275.00 to $450.00 is typical for a buffet centerpiece.

Where should I put it?  It is advisable to discuss this with your wedding caterer first, as they understand your reception layout, menu style and available space. Some suggestions are:  a buffet centerpiece, an entry focal point, to hold cold hors d’oeuvres or seafood, instead of a regular bar or as guest table centerpieces.

Is it going to leak all over? A specially designed clear tray with a drain system is used to contain any water as it slowly melts. Ice Bars may use a pump system to remove the excess water off site.

What design should I get? First decide if you want a usable piece for food or beverage, or for decorative purposes only. If you are Williamsburg theme wedding or have a special interest you both share, your sculptor can work with you to design the perfect piece that makes a statement at your reception.  Instead of a groom’s cake, many brides surprise him with an ice sculpture that is significant to him, his hobbies or career.

Where do I find a sculptor? Most cities have at least one professional ice sculpture company. You can look for a reputable sculptor in your area by attending Williamsburg bridal shows, or by calling the finer hotels and caterers and asking for a recommendation,  as they will be the most likely to use the best in the area. You will find many different styles and degrees of detail from each carver to the next. Some sculptors carve completely by hand with chisels, some use chisels and power tools and many now also use a programmed computer router. Each technique produces a different finished look.

How does it get delivered and removed? Each sculpture company is different and you’ll want to ask them about their level of service. For instance, some sculptors merely deliver the sculpture to your event venue’s freezer and your caterer handles it from there from set up to removal. Many caterers and hotels do not appreciate this and are nervous about handling your delicate sculpture. Our company offers full service by delivering, setting up and removing the sculpture to your ceremony and reception site.

A custom designed work of art in ice, tells your wedding guests you think they’re special. Your beautifully carved, personalized ice sculpture can say “wow” like no other type of décor. Some ice sculptures are the second most beautiful thing in the room.
